60,000 Words and Counting!

As you may know, I hand write before I type. Three weeks of phase 2, typing and on spot editing, and I’m 60,000 words deep.

I would normally be super excited about that number but after a few tweaks I added a better flow to 3 consecutive chapters that lacked it. That much I’m happy with it, and tonight progress will only continue!

Once I reach my “credit teaser,” I’ll leak my new chapter one! *enter egotistical smile here*

Stay tuned folks!

The Terran Myth: What You can expect!

As we began our journey several months ago into the TMU (Terran Myth Universe) through the thriving “Keys To The Universe,” I never really gave you a good picture of what the landscape looks like. To be more accurate the “space-space.”

Let’s give you the scale I’m working on:

Experts estimate that there are between 200-400 billion stars (not planets) just in our single galaxy alone . Some believe that we can easily have closer to a trillion. They also believe there is, at the very least, 100 billion solar systems (a collection of planets orbiting around a star) within our galaxy. Based on the numbers and odds experts believe that 40 billion of those planets are esitmated to be already “earth like,” with 11 billion orbiting stars like our own.  Meaning if we had a way to transverse space then we can easily find new real-estate amongst the stars.

Just so you are aware, I chose to go with 400 billion- go big Or go home, right? As well as sticking with the estimated 40 billions earth like planets.

 Now!

Imagine with me if you please, a future so vast and old that no planet has gone unclaimed. The human population has climbed to unfathomable amounts as it spread to the hundreds of billions of stars within our galaxy.

Terra-forming uninhabital planets (to make earth like) has become an ancient form after being in use for millenniums. To us, it would be like the art of growing great crops or other farmlands. It’s been mastered, stream-lined, and by this point, broken down into hundreds of privately operated proprietorships.

Space travel, by this time, is nothing special or unique. It is nothing more  than if you or I went to our nearest airport and caught a flight to another country. It’s commercialized, it’s privatized and it’s “nothing new,” to the current generations.

There are millions of different technologically developed societies; many live for peace and many lust for war. However technology, like nuclear weapons are today, is regulated heavily by the superior forces that controlled them in the beginning. The superior Big Ten (the 10 largest super powers in the galaxy- which I’ll cover at a later date) insure there is a clear technological gap between factions in order to protect their own interest and to keep the balance of power even between its small neighbors. (Which superpowers currently do today.)

The hardest part about going out on a scale this massive is culture. So to put it straight; money makes the galaxy go round. The more money one had, the more strength it has and with it either peace of war can unfold.

If you want to know more about these tech gaps visit my post on the Tier system that divides civilizations in the TMU. Which can be viewed at Keys To The Universe – Tier I

The story will describe things that will further fill in the details of TMU as it relates to events happening within the story.

Now that pretty much sums up the general idea of the TMU, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Or even offer suggestions of things that could be seen in the future.

More to come so stay tuned!

Jack Cambell’s latest, isn’t his greatest.

Yes, I’m speaking in regards to the great saga of the lost fleet. Don’t get me wrong, I love the books, well until recently.

When I first started the series it was fresh, wonderfully enticing, and combined an idea I originally wanted to use. Thankfully he wrote a version of it that was very satisfying.

Now, you’re probably wondering; why isn’t it his greatest? Jack Cambell’s (John G. Hemry) latest book LF:BF:Laviathan drowns the reader in the same long, and recently boring methodical approach to his battles. I mean give the man his credit, it’s vivid, but after 11 novels nothing has changed in that aspect. Frankly it almost felt overwhelming that I skipped a lot of the battle sequences. Why?  BlackJack always wins, and some character we “sort of” like, was killed… Ok sometimes I was pretty heart broken at some of my favorites dying. I would have cried if I wasn’t struggling with the over technical termed battles.

This is not me saying the story was awful. No, actually, the story was still exciting and had me wanting to cut to the dramatic scenes, which Jack Cambell still delivers beautifully. (I predicted your ending Sir.)

Now I can’t say I have personally met this man, but I exchanged a few emails with him to discuss parts of his story and where he plans to take it. I’m happy that he hasn’t officially ended the series of either the lost stars or the lost fleet, but I’m not entirely sure when he plans on writing another. His a great writer, captivating Author and  wonderful story teller. The man needs a movie deal! I eagerly look forward to his next MSF novel.

Has anyone else read it yet? If so what did you think?

And also, stay tuned!

Why not another one… Tribute! FrontLines Series by Marko Kloos

Well… Well… Well, look who we have here. Good to see you made your decision towards your new life. You have just graduated from slim, to kid.

Now sit back, relax.. Kick your feet up and tell me about it.

Oh, you prefer to stand? I see the military has shit kicked some discipline in you. Maybe you might be more than a kid. Hmmmm we’ll see.

So you wanted to be a spacer; a marine, but you got placed in the Territorial Army? Kid, I hope you know that’s where the real soldiers go. That’s where you’ll find the real meaning of ground pounding. Besides that we have The shifting dirt, the fresh unrecycled air, and the very predictable weather patterns; you just can’t beat it having all that in your favor. Up there, in space, on terraformed/terraforming colonies, you get what you get and most of the time it is playing soldier and organized skirmishes.

Hmmmm… What’s that noise there in your pocket?… call to arms? ….Ah… Which PRC?

Oh… Detroit.. Well then I guess this ends our chat for today. The next time I see you, I predict you’ll be made into man. I’ll see you soon kid.. Stay safe.

Book Series Tribute: FrontLines by Marko Kloos

Ask yourself one question; if you could be anything in another life, what would it be? Wait, don’t tell me. Let’s add in some very defining attributes to your life.

You’re poor; you live in government welfare housing with hundreds of thousands if not millions of people. Adding more salt to the wound that is  your life, you are forced to live off government issued Calorie rations, meal to meal; Everyday. Not to mention if your neighborhood doesn’t fall in line with the laws, the government can and will cut off food, water, or electricity. You know, since you are living in “their city.” Besides all this, there are an abundance of criminal gangs roaming the street; mostly trying to take anything everyone else has.

So let’s recap, you’re dirt poor, your sole dependency is on a government that finds you very expendable and your neighbors would rather rob you at gun point than help you.. Your alternate life sounds fantastic.

So I’ll ask you again, if you could be anything in this life, what would it be?

Wait.. wait.. Wait.. I almost forgot. You’re only way out is joining the military.

Yeah I know, limits your options.

Sounds easy right? … Well I’ll just stop you right there and inform you that you might just be S.O.L. The military actually discourages you from serving.

I know I know; that’s complete nonsense, because if you walk outside right now you’ll probably be bombarded by recruiters. Well slim, in this new life, the recruiters sit back and think of new ways to turn people away from this prestigious military.

I can tell that our minds have clicked during this conversation and I now have second thoughts. I won’t ask you what you would be in the new life. What I should ask you is, could you even survive this new life?

Oh, you think you could? Well slim.. Good luck!

As always stay tuned!

Random Stories Update

Terran Myth! Editing is ongoing!

Rogue Intelligence! Errrrr no comment!

Distracting my mind with a new story idea. I know I shouldn’t, but my mind is always over active. That is partially a reason to a lot of recent set backs plus my overused excuse of “working” (which is true but still.)

New idea however, living out the story of a character and said character dies then plot twist the character lives in the end due to said person being a clone? Idk the exact details it’s just like a rough jumble of words slowly painting into a story. I usually think everything through thoroughly before pin meets paper.

Book recommendation! Odyssey One

This is a serious must read book series. The ending is so cinematic that it deserves an award for the greatest closure to a story arch. It’s also not over, it just leaves you satisfied with the end and crossing your fingers for more!

I will not be leaving a description for this book series in this blog post because I want you to venture out to see it for yourself. It is worth it!

Also if you listen to the audiobook version. The narrator changes for the last novel. However the new narrator was incredible! Check it out!

Book recommendation! Ark Royal Series

Following a very sensible approach to our wonderful planet and all her separate nations discovering spaceflight on their own, Christopher Nuttal invites a new approach to interstellar war.

Unlike most, however, this story is led from the side of England; bringing their well develop customs of being a naval power.

What’s it about all together? Well Earth comes under fire from an Alien species who begins an all out war against their human enemy. Unfortunately the super modern space ships that are armed to the teeth stand no chance against the Alien foe. It comes down to one ship called the Ark Royal, the oldest ship in the fleet used as a museum peace, and her Captain, an aging drunkard, who is the only one capable of commanding her.

The fate of mankind lies in a museum peace and a drunk; will he rise to the challenge or will the drink end his and billions of others lives?

Holy Smokes! I’m writing. Part 2 or 2.

Well I spoke a little soon on the whole writing. I conceded on the fact that I would not be getting anything close to what I would have liked. I managed to pump out about 4000 words though. So there is a start.

Also I intend to start optimizing my break time at work with small attempts to crack into finishing up the short story “Rogue Intelligence.”

Stay tuned!

Book Recommendation! Atlas 2

The second most impressive modern military science fiction novel to hit the shelves or at least the audio book shelves.

You are following from the perspective of the two main characters from the first novel who have now split. It was a wonderful surprise as was the first.

Rade or as his call sign goes “Rage” is a broken hearted member of the worlds most elite force known as the “Moths.” They make the “special forces seem like Girl Scouts,” as it says in one or two parts.

Rage is a distraught individual due to the lost of his childhood friend; both grew up together as orphans. To add on to his already battered mind, the love of his life, who Rage believes is dead, is actually alive and surviving on her own.

This story is vivid and well thought out. I recommend all who like MSF to jump in and get you in on some Moth Action in an Alas! Well at least imagine it.
