Yes, I’m speaking in regards to the great saga of the lost fleet. Don’t get me wrong, I love the books, well until recently.
When I first started the series it was fresh, wonderfully enticing, and combined an idea I originally wanted to use. Thankfully he wrote a version of it that was very satisfying.
Now, you’re probably wondering; why isn’t it his greatest? Jack Cambell’s (John G. Hemry) latest book LF:BF:Laviathan drowns the reader in the same long, and recently boring methodical approach to his battles. I mean give the man his credit, it’s vivid, but after 11 novels nothing has changed in that aspect. Frankly it almost felt overwhelming that I skipped a lot of the battle sequences. Why? BlackJack always wins, and some character we “sort of” like, was killed… Ok sometimes I was pretty heart broken at some of my favorites dying. I would have cried if I wasn’t struggling with the over technical termed battles.
This is not me saying the story was awful. No, actually, the story was still exciting and had me wanting to cut to the dramatic scenes, which Jack Cambell still delivers beautifully. (I predicted your ending Sir.)
Now I can’t say I have personally met this man, but I exchanged a few emails with him to discuss parts of his story and where he plans to take it. I’m happy that he hasn’t officially ended the series of either the lost stars or the lost fleet, but I’m not entirely sure when he plans on writing another. His a great writer, captivating Author and wonderful story teller. The man needs a movie deal! I eagerly look forward to his next MSF novel.
Has anyone else read it yet? If so what did you think?
And also, stay tuned!
I decided to dance to a new beat of the drum. Instead of what many would consider my normal day, which consists of me coming home, gym, food, and complaining about being too tired to write; I decided to take some energy pills right after work. You know, just to it spice it up.
Yes, I can hear your remarks alread about that being insane.. Just kidding, more people do than you think. And yes I was extremely tired when I woke up for work this morning. Coffee cured that.
So about last last night…
I crunched out an entire 10,000 word section of my story in the matter of hours. I wouldn’t have stop until I realized my caffeine was wearing off. I.e. Words, with unknown origins began appearing before every me; some a combination of two or more words and others I had no clue to how I created it. My mind was done and so was I!
Due to the exciting pace the story had reach I’ll be writing again tonight! Not that often when I have this kind of “awake time.”
Well… Well… Well, look who we have here. Good to see you made your decision towards your new life. You have just graduated from slim, to kid.
Now sit back, relax.. Kick your feet up and tell me about it.
Oh, you prefer to stand? I see the military has shit kicked some discipline in you. Maybe you might be more than a kid. Hmmmm we’ll see.
So you wanted to be a spacer; a marine, but you got placed in the Territorial Army? Kid, I hope you know that’s where the real soldiers go. That’s where you’ll find the real meaning of ground pounding. Besides that we have The shifting dirt, the fresh unrecycled air, and the very predictable weather patterns; you just can’t beat it having all that in your favor. Up there, in space, on terraformed/terraforming colonies, you get what you get and most of the time it is playing soldier and organized skirmishes.
Hmmmm… What’s that noise there in your pocket?… call to arms? ….Ah… Which PRC?
Oh… Detroit.. Well then I guess this ends our chat for today. The next time I see you, I predict you’ll be made into man. I’ll see you soon kid.. Stay safe.
This is just me being over fan-bitious.
I’ll do one more to close out book one, but I think that’s all I’ll do. If you want to know more about the books and/or the author. Follow this link to his website Marko Kloos Website (http://www.munchkinwrangler.com/terms-of-enlistment/)
As always, stay tuned!
In a surprise (just so you know this is a random fact) walmart accidentally sold me four tables for the price of one. It was pretty interesting to discover that when I arrived home.
Back to the topic at hand!
As those of you who are following this flash back with me, or those many who motivated the beginning of this; here is another section to the mystery of Erum and the village!
Part 4 of the Ideas
As always! Stay tuned!
As you have seen off my last few posts Im revisiting or at least letting the new followers revisit a post stream from my earlier unknowledgable days of posting.
Following in this link Is another returning part to the original Ideas Series Ideas Part 3
Not the usual type of military SF I’m use too, but Fortunes Pawn was a very good venture off the beaten path. Yes, it is listed as military SF on goodreads but it lacks the actual military appeal as most would. However it has hints of it in there. It was fun to read.
You are following the protagonist Devi Morris (Ms. Morris) as she takes on a security position (which she normally hates) on the infamous “Glorious Fool.” The ship crew is filled with a diverse selection of Humans. The ship is also full of secrets that are worth killing for. The average mercenary last just under one tour of duty on the Glorious Fool. Ms. Morris plans to see her contract all the way to the end in order to receive her wish to join one of the most elite forces in the universe, The Devastators.
Following a very sensible approach to our wonderful planet and all her separate nations discovering spaceflight on their own, Christopher Nuttal invites a new approach to interstellar war.
Unlike most, however, this story is led from the side of England; bringing their well develop customs of being a naval power.
What’s it about all together? Well Earth comes under fire from an Alien species who begins an all out war against their human enemy. Unfortunately the super modern space ships that are armed to the teeth stand no chance against the Alien foe. It comes down to one ship called the Ark Royal, the oldest ship in the fleet used as a museum peace, and her Captain, an aging drunkard, who is the only one capable of commanding her.
The fate of mankind lies in a museum peace and a drunk; will he rise to the challenge or will the drink end his and billions of others lives?
Well I spoke a little soon on the whole writing. I conceded on the fact that I would not be getting anything close to what I would have liked. I managed to pump out about 4000 words though. So there is a start.
Also I intend to start optimizing my break time at work with small attempts to crack into finishing up the short story “Rogue Intelligence.”
Entering into my second full week of work at the new job and I’m granted with the lovely sickness commonly referred to as the stomach flu.
After a pain staking night of pain and other physical horrors I have returned to the land of the living but could only stare at my writing with a blank mind.
My mental state is still focused on surviving the minor ills left over by this terrible sickness.
If you ever want to know what it feels like then I can basically say it’s a complete and utter wipe out of your physical condition. The worst exhausted state you can come too without much work on your part!
So in conclusion the posts that were to originally follow the last, will come tomorrow!
Stay tuned and also Stay Healthy!
So I drifted off to check on my ghost writer! The story has come along well. A few touches up here and there will be needed but thus far I enjoyed it.
To me the ending is everything, it is the last thing you leave the readers with. I want to leave you all with either one of two feelings. The first being a modest “wow” factor or the other leaving you upset and craving for more.
Both thoroughly please me! So feel free to express both when needed. EPD the end of January!
Stay tuned tomorrow for what I find to be some of the greatest concepts of writing.
