Sometimes You need more than a tweak.

Alas, it has been a while.

In that long span of time a lot of fortunate and unfortunate things have unfolded.

Of course the battle of having free time to write is always and forever only half way won.

Personal life, such as health was a set back along side the new area we have to deal with at work (which is entirely too chaotic, but the pay is pretty good.) However, one day I dream to make writing a living, even if it allows me to reduce to a part time job and allow me to not work for the labor industry; to be more specific, skilled labor industry. It’s hard work for starvation wages and I honestly prefer to write for what I currently make.

Now comes the major point of my post for today. My writing, as you may or may not know, was fairly close to completion. At least the 2nd draft was. (The first draft was hand written, which I find crucial for grasping the true emotion as a creative writer.)

But I have been plagued by one chapter that seemed to stick out like a sore thumb. I personally have a limit to explanation giving and I felt I crossed it. I was willing to let it pass, since most people cruised past it, only noting slight boredom from that chapter. I was not satisfied. Then comes a day very recently. (Thanks to a movie inspiring me) I’m happy to say that a rework is in progress and I’m way too excited about where is has led. Once I finish it tomorrow I will have only two chapters left until I’m completely done with phase two.

Yes, it has taken too long to reach this point ever since I started this journey, but for me this will be a personal accomplishment.

Thanks everyone,

 Stay tuned!

The Page Turner

Reading pages upon pages, listening to book after book and watching anything remotely creative doesn’t always fill the gaps on protocols and edicit.

So I took upon myself to hand over two major enteries to my book to a fellow military man; A retire (XO) Naval Officer aka my current Director for my civilian job.

The two enteries are from perspectives of a dozen or so Naval officers and how they would operate/communicate to one another in a formal setting and in a combat one.

I’m fluent in regular army SOP’s (standard operating procedures) but I was worried about my naval SOP’s.

Good news! Turned out I was pretty spot on and best of yet, he gave me two thumps up (more like appraisal in person and desires to read more) but I took it for what it was worth!

Stay Tuned folks!

60,000 Words and Counting!

As you may know, I hand write before I type. Three weeks of phase 2, typing and on spot editing, and I’m 60,000 words deep.

I would normally be super excited about that number but after a few tweaks I added a better flow to 3 consecutive chapters that lacked it. That much I’m happy with it, and tonight progress will only continue!

Once I reach my “credit teaser,” I’ll leak my new chapter one! *enter egotistical smile here*

Stay tuned folks!

No Apologies, Just Progress.

Yes, I have been gone for a little while, and it isn’t because I forgot about my blog. It came down to a simple matter of the responsibilities I had promised to complete.
Just a quick update as to what I have been up too!

Per orders of my military contract, I was off playing soldier in the woods for two weeks. It was fun, long, hot, uncomfortable and a very good learning experience. I honestly look forward to doing it again the next go round.

While I was off playing soldier, I had spare time to write out the short story “Rogue Intelligence,” but you won’t see that until after TMU book 1 is completely typed and edited. (To the fullest extent that is, because sometimes grammar mistakes can slip through the gaps.)

In regards to TMU book One, the book I was posting all the progress about before I left, I have been making serious headway in transition it from the handwritten into digital text. (Yes, I like to hand write my stories first. It allows me to fill responsible for personally crafting each letter for myself like artwork. I’ve mentioned this in an earlier post.)

While I can handwrite close to 10,000 words in a day I can only force myself to type between 2000-5000 a day before my mind or hands desire a break. Typing can really burn you out mentally while acting as a filter between your imagination and the text document. I don’t want to overdo anything in the ways of explanations or descriptions.

I gave myself an extra week off after I finished writing the short story to mentally prepare myself for the overpowering duty of typing every day, sometimes throughout the whole day. Since starting this little escapade last Monday I have reached a grand total of 40,000 words typed, out of the 100,000 word goal. I just finished my Wednesday slack day of only 2000 words. (Which takes between 1-3 hours, depending on how fast I want to get back to enjoying my social life.)

I just hope I keep up this intensity!

See, no routine apologies that usually follow my brief moments of radio silence. Just an update on all the progress!
I’m back, So stay tuned!

The Terran Myth: What You can expect!

As we began our journey several months ago into the TMU (Terran Myth Universe) through the thriving “Keys To The Universe,” I never really gave you a good picture of what the landscape looks like. To be more accurate the “space-space.”

Let’s give you the scale I’m working on:

Experts estimate that there are between 200-400 billion stars (not planets) just in our single galaxy alone . Some believe that we can easily have closer to a trillion. They also believe there is, at the very least, 100 billion solar systems (a collection of planets orbiting around a star) within our galaxy. Based on the numbers and odds experts believe that 40 billion of those planets are esitmated to be already “earth like,” with 11 billion orbiting stars like our own.  Meaning if we had a way to transverse space then we can easily find new real-estate amongst the stars.

Just so you are aware, I chose to go with 400 billion- go big Or go home, right? As well as sticking with the estimated 40 billions earth like planets.

 Now!

Imagine with me if you please, a future so vast and old that no planet has gone unclaimed. The human population has climbed to unfathomable amounts as it spread to the hundreds of billions of stars within our galaxy.

Terra-forming uninhabital planets (to make earth like) has become an ancient form after being in use for millenniums. To us, it would be like the art of growing great crops or other farmlands. It’s been mastered, stream-lined, and by this point, broken down into hundreds of privately operated proprietorships.

Space travel, by this time, is nothing special or unique. It is nothing more  than if you or I went to our nearest airport and caught a flight to another country. It’s commercialized, it’s privatized and it’s “nothing new,” to the current generations.

There are millions of different technologically developed societies; many live for peace and many lust for war. However technology, like nuclear weapons are today, is regulated heavily by the superior forces that controlled them in the beginning. The superior Big Ten (the 10 largest super powers in the galaxy- which I’ll cover at a later date) insure there is a clear technological gap between factions in order to protect their own interest and to keep the balance of power even between its small neighbors. (Which superpowers currently do today.)

The hardest part about going out on a scale this massive is culture. So to put it straight; money makes the galaxy go round. The more money one had, the more strength it has and with it either peace of war can unfold.

If you want to know more about these tech gaps visit my post on the Tier system that divides civilizations in the TMU. Which can be viewed at Keys To The Universe – Tier I

The story will describe things that will further fill in the details of TMU as it relates to events happening within the story.

Now that pretty much sums up the general idea of the TMU, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Or even offer suggestions of things that could be seen in the future.

Terran Myth Update (May 2015)

Posting on a holiday usually never leads to anything good. That is why yesterday a post pretty much slid by unnoticed. Which was My fault.

Terran Myth Book 1 Status: Completed all Writing; Currently Typing and editing. BASICALLY IT IS FINISHED! *fist pump in triumph*

This was quicker to achieve than I expected. It was easier since I started the very unhealthy use of caffeine on days I designate as writing days. So let me be your test subject to show you it doesn’t kill you in the end. (Sarcasm)

I’ll be vanishing for 2 weeks this Friday, to conduct annual training and then I’ll return with hopefully the first half of book 2 written out!

Unfortunately, since I’ll be in the woods sleeping most of my nights, I won’t be able to type out the remainder of book one. So don’t bail out on me! We’ve made it this far. Let’s finish it!

As a tribute to this milestone, I will release a section of the first chapter on here, once the entire book is finished being typed and edited, as best as it can be. As well a special offer will be announce once the coverart is finished.

On a side note; this will be my first book selfpublished, (shooting to eventually get on with a real publisher- no rush there) but I want your feed back! As much negative and good feed back as you can force my way before you tire out.

Keep a look out for the new TMU features to come!

Stay tuned my friends! I appreciate all your support.

It is complete! (Teaser)

Let the drums of triumph echo their beat in the distant. Let the fire works of victory light the night sky. Let the dance of accomplishment flow through the soul!

Why?!

The story has been completely written. .. Yes. I said it. Front to back the story is finally completed. Total word count is 123,000ish.

Now the fun part, 2-4 weeks of intensive editing and scene changes. 3 editors to comb through it.

I want no stone unturned for my first release for a novel. Word count is expected to drop a few thousand.

I’ll be back later to provide further detail! And a new feature to the TMU is coming.

Stay tuned!

It’s official.

I have broken my streak of laziness !

I have offically registered my domain name. As you will see this is no longer “bbshortstories.wordpress.com”

Unpredictably, this page has evolved over the time I’ve been posting. It has gone from its original intention as a place where I post my short stories and ideas. It has now transformed into a full fledge multiverse of writings. I’ve done book tributes, book recommendations, soon maybe literal book reviews, short stories, ideas of short stories, full size novel synopsis/plots, novellas, movie reviews, novels I’m working on, extensive expansion of a Universe within a story, and  just normal general thoughts because I feel like it.

So I felt the short stories aspect needed to be broadened. Now it’s a story place, as much as it is everything in regards to reading and any  entertainment (movies, books, ideas, stories I hear, TV shows etc.) that reflects greatly on imaginative writings.

You are now looking at the SkylerhawkesStories.com

So, as I should have done 5 days ago.

WELCOME! To my new humble abode!

I hope you visit frequently. I like to think it’s thought provoking and homey.

So to my fellow writers, bloggers, editors, publishers, facebookers, Twitter’rs and any other form of cyber warrior out there! STAY TUNED!

Jack Cambell’s latest, isn’t his greatest.

Yes, I’m speaking in regards to the great saga of the lost fleet. Don’t get me wrong, I love the books, well until recently.

When I first started the series it was fresh, wonderfully enticing, and combined an idea I originally wanted to use. Thankfully he wrote a version of it that was very satisfying.

Now, you’re probably wondering; why isn’t it his greatest? Jack Cambell’s (John G. Hemry) latest book LF:BF:Laviathan drowns the reader in the same long, and recently boring methodical approach to his battles. I mean give the man his credit, it’s vivid, but after 11 novels nothing has changed in that aspect. Frankly it almost felt overwhelming that I skipped a lot of the battle sequences. Why?  BlackJack always wins, and some character we “sort of” like, was killed… Ok sometimes I was pretty heart broken at some of my favorites dying. I would have cried if I wasn’t struggling with the over technical termed battles.

This is not me saying the story was awful. No, actually, the story was still exciting and had me wanting to cut to the dramatic scenes, which Jack Cambell still delivers beautifully. (I predicted your ending Sir.)

Now I can’t say I have personally met this man, but I exchanged a few emails with him to discuss parts of his story and where he plans to take it. I’m happy that he hasn’t officially ended the series of either the lost stars or the lost fleet, but I’m not entirely sure when he plans on writing another. His a great writer, captivating Author and  wonderful story teller. The man needs a movie deal! I eagerly look forward to his next MSF novel.

Has anyone else read it yet? If so what did you think?

And also, stay tuned!

Poison or Promise? You decide.

Hello once again everyone, I was happy to see the support for the short excerpt from a fellow writer’s story. You all know it was pretty captivating, it is alright to admit you want to know more. *incert wink face here*

There will be more to come from Robert D. Fulmer in the future!

Now! To discuss the purpose of my title “Poison or Promise? You decide.”

There is no secret that I am talking about the caffeine over dose I’m sure is in my future. (Not really. Unfortunately life within the military and when I was a security guard as made me all to skilled and professional with my caffeine usage.) Don’t judge.

As I posted a week ago, a new tactic I tried helped me crunch out a large section of my story.

Well I kept up the new tactic since last Thursday, but only on days where it was practical. Thanks to this new method I have completed *play a suspenseful drum beat* a whopping 30,000 words. I have maybe 20,000 left until I start the second portion of my story. Typing and editing…. *enter painfilled sickening face here.*

Anyone who writes or types, is well aware that you get faster the more you do it. To state, I have been typing a lot longer than I have been writing. So based off how much and how fast I write, it will tell you the speed in which I type. (10k words is child’s play.)

In the near future, I’ll share with you all about my motivation as to why I’m pushing this story through at an exponential rate.

But for now and as always people, Stay tuned!
